Rationale
This course reflects the philosophy, principles, and paradigms of foundational elements and skills necessary for effective ministry to children, adolescents, and college students (NextGen) with practical application assignments. This course provides students who are training to work within specific age groups in local church and/or Christian youth ministry organizations with the necessary skills to apply biblical principles to contemporary culture.

Discussions (4)
The student will be required to give a personal response in a new thread to the topic presented in the lesson for each module: week, and reply to at least 2 other students’ threads within his/her assigned group. Each thread must contain at least 250 words, and each reply must have at least 100 words. (CLOs: B, D)
Website Summary Assignment
The student will examine the just a phase webpage. The student will write a 2–3 page paper (excluding cover page) giving a description and critique of this website, with a focus on phases and ministry skills that the student finds beneficial. (CLOs: B, C, D, E)
Reading Report Assignments (3)
The student will be expected to read the required texts for this course. The student will write a 2–3-page report for each text using current Turabian format. (CLOs: B, E)
Disturbing Behavior Paper Assignment
The student will write a 3–5-page paper focusing on a disturbing behavior that has been observed among NextGen. If the student has difficulty identifying one behavior, the student may take a broad behavior and narrow the topic (be more specific). It is expected that the student will identify the age group that is most susceptible to this behavior. The paper must have at least 5 sources, and the student must use current Turabian format throughout. (CLOs: A, B, D)
NextGen Pastor Interview Assignment
The student will identify a NextGen pastor and interview him or her about the curriculum that is taught within the youth group. Based on the information discovered through the interview, the student will complete a paper of 2–3 pages using current Turabian format. (CLOs: A, C)
Journal Article Summaries Assignment
The student will be expected to read 5 articles from contemporary periodicals (5 years or less) that are related to today’s college students and write a 1–2-page, double-spaced summary for each of the 5 articles (5 pages min. and10 pages max.). Articles can come from popular news and popular culture websites as well as hard-copy periodicals. In addition, the student must include a cover page and bibliography with his/her summaries that follow current Turabian formatting. (CLOs: A, B, D, E)
Quiz: Foundations of NextGen Ministry
The student will complete 1 quiz based upon the Foundations of NextGen Ministry Worktext. The test will be open-book/open-notes and consist of 50 true/false and multiple-choice questions. The student will have 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete the test. (CLOs: A, B, C, D)
