Course Requirements Checklist
After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.
Discussions (4)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread must be 300–350 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge, and all points should have a logical flow, be stated clearly, and indicate thoughtful analysis. Each thread must contain citations and references from at least 1 scholarly source in current APA format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to post 2 replies, expanding on a point made in another student’s thread or a question posed by the instructor. Each reply must be 250–300 words, be clear and coherent, provide substantive additional thoughts that expand the discussion, and contain citations and references from at least 1 scholarly source in current APA format. Each post must include in-text citations and a reference list at the end of the post. Any sources cited must have been published within the last five years. Acceptable sources include textbooks and professional, refereed journal articles outside of the assigned readings. A Christian worldview or biblical themes should be included in posts as appropriate. All posts should be written in a professional tone, with correct spelling and grammar; complete, clear, and concise sentences; paragraphs containing appropriately varied sentence structures; and minimal quotations.
Caregiver Interview Assignment
The student will conduct an interview with a non-paid primary caregiver of an elderly adult, using questions provided in the assignment instructions, and write a 4–6-page (excluding the title, reference, and abstract pages) summary paper in current APA format. A 150–250-word abstract must be included in the paper, as well as a properly APA-formatted title page (including a title no longer than 12 words and the student’s name and institutional affiliation), reference page, and in-text citations. The paper must be divided into two sections: Interview Summary and Personal Reaction. The Interview Summary will include a clear synopsis of all interview questions, clearly conveying the viewpoint of the interviewee through well-articulated summaries and quotations. The Personal Reaction must demonstrate an in-depth, personalized reflection on the material learned from the interview, with insightful viewpoints and interpretations well supported by clear, detailed examples. The paper must be double-spaced with 1-inch margins in 12-point Times New Roman font. The writing style must be professional, objective, and precise, with appropriate word choice; sophisticated vocabulary; sentences varied by structure and length; no errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation; and minimal quotations.
Community Resources and Advocacy Handbook Assignment
The student will research community resources available to senior citizens in his/her community in order to write a 4–5-page handbook. The student must obtain at least 22 resources (2 resources each for 11 categories), as outlined in the assignment instructions, and then list and record contact information for each (resource name, address, phone numbers, contact person, email), along with a brief description of the service provided. The assignment must use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Structured Life Review Assignment
In order to complete this assignment, the student must first complete Quiz: Client Consent and Assessment Forms, during which the student will obtain signed consent from an elderly client and administer an assessment during his/her first session with the client. The student will then conduct a series of 7–8 interviews (including initial visit) in 1-hour sessions with the client and record them with a digital recording device for use in his/her Structured Life Review Assignment. The digital recording device must be portable, allow for audio recording, and have enough battery power to record 1-hour sessions. The student will write a 12–14-page (excluding the title, reference, and abstract pages) research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on the Structured Life Review of his/her chosen client. A 150–250-word abstract must be included in the paper, as well as a properly APA-formatted title page (including a title no longer than 12 words and the student’s name and institutional affiliation), reference page, and in-text citations. The paper must be divided into three sections, answering all questions listed in the assignment instructions: Assessment (2 pages), Summary of Sessions (7–8 pages), and Personal Reflections (3–4 pages). The Assessment section will include the student’s assessment of the client’s status in terms of physical health, mental health, and family/community support, providing a clear picture of the client’s abilities and limitations. The Summary of Sessions section will briefly summarize and describe information the student learned in each session—providing a clear picture of the client’s reflections, thoughts, and feelings—under the following seven subheadings (at least 1 page for each subheading): Orientation Session, Childhood, Adolescence, Young Adulthood, Older Adulthood, Summary and Integration, and Closure and Outcomes. The Personal Reflections section will reflect on the student’s visits with the client. The paper must be double-spaced with 1-inch margins in 12-point Times New Roman font. The writing style must be professional, objective, and precise, with appropriate word choice; sophisticated vocabulary; sentences varied by structure and length; and no errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation.
The student will select an elderly client for the Structured Life Review Assignment who meets the qualifications listed in the assignment instructions. During the first visit, the student will obtain written consent from his/her client by completing the Structured Life Review Consent Form and administer an assessment by completing the Test of Psychosocial Function Mood Scale. The student will scan and upload the completed forms to the provided quiz link. The student will then conduct a series of 7–8 interviews (including initial visit) in 1-hour sessions and record them with a digital recording device for use in his/her Structured Life Review Assignment. The digital recording device must be portable, allow for audio recording, and have enough battery power to record 1-hour sessions.

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 10 multiple-choice, true/false, or essay questions, and have a 20-minute time limit. Each quiz will allow 1 attempt.
