BUSI 644 Human Resources Development

This course integrates theory with a practical approach to the topic of human resources development (HRD) with a focus on the design, implementation, and management of employee orientation, training, and career development programs. A comprehensive view of the concepts, processes, and philosophies of training and development is presented in this course. Emphasis is a place on current trends and research related to the various aspects of the human resource development function. Students will discuss the history and future of HRD, strategies, methods, materials, and measurement of training programs, as well as apply the processes involved in designing, developing, and implementing appropriate and effective training programs.

This course directly supports AIMS of Liberty University’s Statement of Purpose. The human resource manager must have the necessary skills to be able to design, implement, and manage an effective training and development program to support the strategic mission of the organization. These tolls will be the foundation upon which the resource manager will be able to provide complex decisions with regard to efficiency and effectiveness of the organization’s training and development programs.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. There are 2 graded Discussions throughout the course. The purpose of Discussion is to generate interaction among students in regard to relevant current course topics. The student is required to post 1 thread of at least 400 words within the Discussion. The student will then post 2 substantive replies of at least 250 words each. For each thread and reply the student must cite at least 3 sources, to include the textbook, the Bible, and 1 peer-reviewed scholarly journal. 

In a minimum of 500 words discuss how the Bible relates to at least three topics covered in the course. Specific Scriptures(at least three) must be cited and discussed, as well as the course textbook and articles from at least 2 peer-reviewed journals (published within the past five years). A reference list is required using the APA format.

Training Proposal, Methodology, and Rationale Assignment

The Training Proposal, Methodology, and Rationale Assignment is a formal, graduate-level paper of at least 8 pages on a training topic of the student’s choice derived from the textbook.

Training Proposal, Methodology, and Rationale Topic Assignment

Each student will select a topic to be addressed in the Training Proposal, Methodology, and Rationale Topic assignment. This topic must be directly related to the course content and discussed in the course textbook and approved by the professor. 

Literature Review Assignment

The student will research and write an original 8-10 page Literature Review of the training topic proposed in the previous Training Proposal, Methodology, and Rationale Assignment. The Literature Review must include at least 9 scholarly articles from peer-reviewed journals, published within the past five years and available within the Liberty University library databases, plus the Bible. The Literature Review must meet the standards of the current edition of the APA manual for in-text citations, references, headings, grammar, spelling and mechanics. 

Case Study Assignments (2)

Measuring HRD Effectiveness 

For this assignment, the student’s task is to create an Executive Summary (Between 1-2 Pages) that would be presented to the C-Suite of Falls Ridge Bank including the tools, data sources, and success indicators the student would use to evaluate and measure both ethics and compliance training.

Central Columbia Hospital 

For this assignment, the student will write a 1000-word paper answering 3 questions for discussions posed at the end of the Case Study.

Quizzes (8)

During this course, the student will be required to complete 8 open-book/open-note quizzes. Each quiz will consist of 15 multiple-choice questions comprised of information discussed in the textbook reading.
