BUSI 353 Retirement Savings and Income Planning

This course is designed to cover, retirement needs analysis, Social Security and Medicare, Medicaid, types of retirement plans, qualified plan rules and options, other tax-advantaged retirement plans, regulatory considerations, key factors affecting plan selection for businesses, distribution rules and taxation, retirement income and distribution strategies and business succession planning.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will participate in 2 module discussions. The student will post a thread of at least 300-words. The student will then post 2 replies of at least 150-words each. For each thread, the student must support their assertions with at least 1 scholarly citation cited in current APA format. Any sources cited must have been published within the last 5 years. Both parts of the discussion (thread and replies) must be submitted by the published deadlines in order for the student to earn credit for either part of the discussion.

Financial Advisor Networking Assignment

The student will practice their soft skills and networking ability. The assignment will consist of 3 sections. For section 1, the student will find 3-5 financial advisors to contact. The student will provide the name of each advisor, the name of their business, and a link to their website. For section 2, the student will draft a 50-200-word email to each listed advisor. The email should introduce the student, explain the reason for contacting, and specify the amount of time requested to meet. For section 3, the student will prepare to meet with the advisor by drafting at least 10 thoughtful questions about retirement planning to discuss. The assignment should follow current APA format. Sources or citations are not required for this assignment. 

Financial Advisor Interview Assignment

The student will interview an advisor, summarize their conversation, and reflect on the experience. This assignment will give the student practice asking intentional questions, listening, and taking notes. This assignment will consist of 3 sections. For section 1, the student will provide the name of the advisor they met with along with the name of the business, a link to the website, the format of the meeting, and the date the meeting occurred. For section 2, the student will write at least 3 of the questions asked and will provide a summary of each of the advisor’s answers. Each summary should be at least 100-words. For section 3, the student will provide a reflection of at least 150-words on the overall experience. The assignment should follow current APA format. Sources or citations are not required for this assignment.

Based on the Course Learning Outcomes above, this course will have weekly quizzes to ensure the student is meeting the Program Learning Outcomes. Each weekly quiz will be open-book/open-notes, consist of 10 or 20 multiple choice questions, allow for 1 attempt, and have a 1-hour time limit.
