Course Requirements Checklist
After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.
Discussions (2)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. The thread must be at least 400 words and demonstrate a comprehension of the corresponding course reading. In addition to the thread, the student will reply to the threads of at least 2 classmates. Each reply must be at least 100 words. (CLOs: A & B)
The student will follow the instructions and write short responses describing the key words and themes of each of the General Epistles to gauge the student’s level of prior knowledge and to plan for areas for study during the course (CLOs: A & B)
General Epistles Journal Assignments (7)
For these guided reflections, the student will use the qualities of Scripture given by Paul in 2 Timothy 3:16–17 to complete journal assignments in each Module: Week while reading through the General Epistles. The student must use the provided journal templates and prompts given for each reflection. The primary focus of the journal assignment is the Scriptures themselves rather than commentaries and other Bible study tools. No outside sources should be used. (CLOs: A, B, & C)
Learning by Doing Assignments (2)
The student will complete two assignments that are based off of his/her reading from Letters of Grace and Beauty by Leland Ryken. The student must use the provided template for each assignment in order to successfully complete the particular evaluation of the format and features found in the General Epistles. (CLO: C)
Scripture Study Assignments (2)
The student will complete Scripture studies on selected passages from the General Epistles. The student will study selected passages using the skills of Observation, Interpretation, and Application to engage the passages in a hermeneutically-sound manner. A template is provided to walk the student through each step of this process. This template must be used. Additionally, the student must document all sources used (including textbooks) in the current Turabian format. The use of Internet sources requires the instructor’s prior approval since these are typically neither scholarly nor academic. (CLOs: A, B, & C)
Quizzes (2)
Each quiz will cover the Learn materials and will be open-book/open-notes, will contain 50 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and will have a time limit of 90 minutes. The student will be allowed 2 attempts, and the highest score will count as his or her grade. (CLOs: A, B, & C)
