This course plays a foundational role in introducing the Ph.D. candidate to the School of Aviation Doctoral Program and the nature of doctoral studies, fostering the development of a conceptual framework for approaching research and scholarship within the program and the discipline.

Video Discussion: Class Introductions
The candidate will complete the Video Discussion: Class Introductions in a visual presentation format. The visual presentation must include a 2-minute minimum recorded presentation. The candidate should be creative with the presentations. It is recommended that the candidate uses Kaltura to create the presentations. If the candidate is not comfortable with Kaltura, a technology medium must be used that allows the presentation to include the candidate’s face and audio. In addition to the initial video thread, the candidate must post 2 replies of at least 150 words each.
Discussions (6)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate will discuss and interact with 6 discussions based on various topics. For each discussion, the candidate is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt. Each thread must be 500-600 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the candidate is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 250-350 words. (CLO: A, C, D, E, F)
Journal Exercise: Doctoral Persistence Plan Assignment
The candidate will develop a 500-750-word plan to ensure persistence through the degree. This plan must include 8-10 strategies, use current APA format, and must conclude with a Scripture verse. (CLO: A)
Article Analysis Assignments (3)
The candidate will read and critically analyze 3 assigned articles using the provided templates. The critique must follow the current APA style and formatting. (CLO: B, C, E)
Current Issue Project Assignments (2)
Literature Review Annotated Table Assignment
Using the information presented about the Jerry Falwell Library, the assigned Module: Week, and the Literature Review Annotated Table Template provided, the candidate will research an issue in aeronautics, finding and highlighting emerging themes found in research. The candidate must select 10 scholarly, peer-reviewed articles published within the last 5 years. (CLO: D)
Outline Assignment
Utilizing the assignment Current Issue Project: Literature Review Annotated Table, the candidate will complete an outline with 3–5 major headings, each with 2–5 subheadings of the primary themes or concepts that appeared within and across the 10 scholarly peer-reviewed articles. (CLO: D)
Reflective Essay Assignment
Using Tinto’s (1975, 1993) concepts of academic integration and social integration as the organizational and conceptual framework for the discussion, the candidate will reflect on his/her growth in the course and list 3-5 goals for integrating academically and socially in his/her current doctoral program at Liberty University. The reflection must be 500-750 words, align with current APA formatting, and include a minimum of 5 sources. (CLO: A, C)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes and will contain 10 multiple-choice and/or true/false questions. Each quiz has a 60-minute time limit. (CLO: A, B, F)
