AVIA 306 Non-Profit Aviation Management

This course provides a perspective on the impact of nonprofit organizations including within the aviation industry. Students will research key areas relating to nonprofit governance and structure, ethics, effectiveness of nonprofits, financial management, legal issues and benefits to members. Students will be challenged to synthesize these concepts with a biblical perspective.

The purpose of this course is to prepare students to work in the field of aviation association management. It is also applicable to students working in other fields of aviation to better understand the role of nonprofit associations, particularly in the aviation industry.

Discussion: Class Introductions

The student will introduce themselves to the class by answering questions about themselves in a discussion thread of at least 150 words. Each student must also reply to two other classmates. Reply posts are required to be at least 100 words.

The student must complete various Discussions in this course. Each student will post an initial thread of 400-500 words of the assigned module: week for each Discussion. In addition, the student must then post 2 replies of 250 words. These are intended to be scholarly dialogues and for each thread, the student must support his/her assertions with proper scholarly support in APA format with sources listed as References at the end of the post. The purpose of this assignment is to summarize material learned within the Learn section of each module: week.

Article Critique Assignments (2)

The student will write two article critiques. They will include a 2 – 3 page summary of the primary article and offer a critique of the article based on information provided from two additional articles on the same topic.

Research Paper: Topic Selection Assignment

The student will identify and explain the reason(s) for selecting the research paper topic. This proposal needs to be one page in length and at least 500 words.

Research Paper Assignment

The student will write an 8 page paper on an aviation nonprofit association. Information should include the mission, brief history, leadership, membership programs, revenue sources, etc. and compare to the preferred practices learned in this course. The paper will be written in APA format.

Quizzes (3)

The student will complete three quizzes in this course. All quizzes will be open-book/open-notes and contain 10 multiple-choice questions. The allotted time for each quiz is one hour.
