Course Description

Rationale

The Old Testament Pentateuch (Law) is foundational to the Old Testament and sets the theological trajectory for redemption realized in the New Testament. This course helps the student understand the Pentateuch and related contextual issues of history, culture, and theology so that he/she will appreciate the significance of the Pentateuch to the full canon of Scripture as they effectively minister to the Church and local community.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will be required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to at least 2 other classmates' threads. Students will engage the text of the Pentateuch in this assignment by exercising their observational skills and applying the first steps of the interpretive process to several different passages of Scripture. This assignment will serve as a foundation for the course’s major project that will be due later in the course (CLOs: B, C)

Students will practice their ability to outline the Pentateuch in this assignment by properly organizing different Bible passages in ways that demonstrate the logical/thematic flow of the text. This assignment will serve as an additional component for the course’s major project that will be due later in the course. (CLOs: B, C)

Students will demonstrate their interpretation of the Pentateuch in this assignment by responsibly articulating the principles taught in the Scripture. This assignment will serve as an additional component for the course’s major project that will be due later in the course. (CLOs: B, C)

Students will compile the research/work they have accomplished in throughout the course and synthesize the information in a presentation that demonstrates a responsible interpretation and application of a passage from the Pentateuch. This assignment will take into account and utilize the previous assignments from the course. (CLOs: A, B, C)
