Campus Drone Policy
Liberty University Campus Unmanned Aerial System Operations
Want to fly your drone on the Liberty University campus?
Our university houses dozens of beautiful locations, perfect for capturing aerial footage!
However, with topics like airspace, regulations, policies, and authorizations, it’s hard to know where and how someone is allowed to operate their drone. But don’t worry!
We at the School of Aeronautics have developed step-by-step guidelines for how you can fly safely and legally on Liberty University property.
Let’s dive into it!
Steps to Fly on Campus
Step #1: Pilot Certification
Step #2: Drone Registration
Step # 3: UAS Training Evaluation (For LU Employees & Departments Only)
Step # 4: Liberty University UAS Policy
Step #5: Liberty University UAS Campus Operation Approval Request
Step #6: FAA LAANC Request
Step #7: Notifying Liberty University Police Department
Is your drone equipped with Remote ID?
Effective March of 2024, the FAA has mandated that all drones must be equipped with a Remote Identification System.
If your drone is not equipped with the FAA mandatory Remote Identification System, Liberty University has designated Federally Recognized Identification Areas (FRIAs) for your drone to safely operate without the Remote ID system. (see below)
See the FAA Webpage to check if your drone is already Remote ID compliant.
