  • Review/Revise SACSCOC Narratives for Liberty University's accreditation reaffirmation report. This includes recognizing and gathering leaders from all appropriate divisions of Liberty University to assist us in creating or clarifying narrative for the report in order to be in compliance, offering recommendations on wording, inclusion/omission of text, and additional appendices information to be added, etc., recalling any connection to other standards and in order to confirm that information is accurate and comparable, etc.
  • Review all undergraduate curriculum and make recommendations for Provost for approval/denial/postponement. This includes discussing all undergraduate curriculum proposals with the Chair, Associate Chair, and Secretary of the Faculty Curriculum Council and with each Academic Dean from the respective college/school in order to understand the impact of the proposal with regard to our mission & purpose for the University along with funding/faculty/facilities needs if applicable.
  • Advised, guided, and supported new & interim Deans in making the transition into leadership position into the college/school with regard to budgets, course assignments, efficiencies, cultural dynamics related to the particular college/school, administrative perspectives on specific issues, etc.  For example, I have assisted in the leadership transitions of the School of Engineering; School of Business, School of Communication & Creative Arts, School of Music, and School of Religion.
  • Cultivate an educational entrepreneurial spirit within Academic Deans, Chairs, Program Directors, and Faculty as an extension of the Provost’s vision for how to improve academic vision and planning.
  • Review budget revisions, requests, and amendments submitted by Academic Deans and Directors prior to recommending approval to the Provost.
  • Remain watchful for any ‘gaps’ in existing or proposed policies & procedures.  For example, I have reviewed and made recommendations for alternate teaching load calculations for uniquely deployed faculty in specific departments (Cinematic Arts, Theater, Exercise Science, Aeronautics, etc); I recognized the need for the official insertion of the General Education Committee into the Faculty Communication Center approval process, met with academic leadership, which led to their decision/vote to insert an endorsement from the College of General Studies into the curriculum process. I have strengthened the interview process of a faculty candidate by reviewing every step of the process and implementing revisions where needed.
  • Represent the Provost Office when meeting with the leadership of external entities in order to gather information on potential new academic initiatives.
  • Serve as liaison & ex officio for the Provost to the Faculty Senate, Faculty Curriculum Council, and all Senate organizational committees.

Recent Administrative Accomplishments

  • Collaborated with University leaders of all relevant divisions and successfully strengthened Liberty’s prominence as an Industry Leader in the Online Instructional Space.
  • Removed Academy Bottlenecks (Macro/Micro) related to all policies, procedures, protocols, personnel, org structures, job descriptions, academic programs, services, accreditations, budgets related to the academic divisions and curriculum for Liberty University Online (LUO).
  • Maintaining continued vigilance to prevent future inefficiencies.
  • Assuring all changes remain compliant with SACSCOC principles.
  • Maintaining a zero-compromise of Academic Excellence & Integrity in curriculum, faculty, and services.
  • Executing leadership responsibilities and a change in academic culture with professionalism, collegiality, and effectiveness.
  • Deliberated with Faculty Senate Faculty and facilitated the conversion of the one-year university curriculum approval process to the current 14-day curriculum approval process (post department/school deliberation) via the establishment of the Faculty Curriculum Council (FCC).
  • Guided the new academic leadership in the Center for Cinematic Arts in the establishing of 4.5-year funding commitment for the Zaki Gordon Cinematic Arts Center within 30 days of inception.
  • Provided leadership and oversight in the conversion of the former faculty evaluation process (paper-based; varied in levels of evaluation per faculty member) into an ePortfolio process and the subsequent changes in the Liberty University Handbook to a more efficient system that remained SACSCOC compliant while gathering more valuable information used for annual reviews of all types of faculty on an annual basis.
  • Implemented an expedited interview process for residential faculty (from logistics to interview meetings) along with securing approval for purposeful & thoughtful interview questions for all residential and online interview committees.
  • Facilitated mid-year transition of departments to new colleges/schools – e.g., Theater Department & technical productions/programming to existing School of Communication and Creative Arts; Music Department & Worship Department to new School of Music. These transitions involved changes in mid-year FCC approval chain, promotional materials, committee representations, budget transfers, salary adjustments, impact upon faculty hiring, remained watchful when SACSCOC notifications were required, etc.

This book provides over 2000 supplemental exercises to reinforce foundational principles of Greek grammar. This book serves as a companion to David Alan Black’s popular “Learn to Read New Testament Greek."
  • Towns, Elmer and Gutierrez, Ben (2012) “The Essence of the New Testament: A Survey” (Nashville: Broadman & Holman) provides a practical, readable, and insightful survey of theological concepts, practical applications, study questions, and helpful word studies for all 27 New Testament books. Drs. Towns and Gutierrez draw from our lives as teachers to provide a well-tested and proven New Testament overview that we wrote at the collegiate level, yet it is still very appropriate for pastors, scholars, and laymen alike.
