Overnight Aviation Camp

  • Liberty University School of Aeronautics (Not drop off/pick up location)
  • The Overnight Aviation Camp is for rising 9th-12th graders

The New Horizons High School Camp gives high school students from all over the U.S. the opportunity to explore the exciting career opportunities (and hobbies) that the field of aviation has to offer. Through basic ground school classes and fun hands-on activities, students will be able to get an idea if a career in aviation is something they might be interested in! 

At our camp, you will be immersed in the world of aviation through ground school classes taught by professionally certified flight instructors as well as a number of fun educational activities. These activities include: model rocket building/launching, building, and launching model gliders, flying in our state of the art flight simulators, 2 flights in an actual airplane, hands-on maintenance projects, and more!

Camp Gear

What to Wear

  • Modest Clothing
  • Shorts (no shorter than 4" above the knee)
  • T-shirts and jeans are acceptable
  • No skirts (Not conducive to activities)
  • Modest swimwear
  • Clothes for hiking
  • Comfortable clothes for activities

What to Bring

  • Bedding (Pillow, sheets, blanket, etc.)
  • Towel and Toiletries
  • Bible, Notebook, and Pen
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Money for LU Bookstore (Optional)
  • Laundry detergent (Optional)
  • Please leave phone and electronics in dorm room

Travel & Housing

  • Driving: Arrive at Liberty University between 3:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018. Plan on leaving at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2018.
  • Flights: All flights must arrive by 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018, and must depart after 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2018. The camp staff will meet you at your baggage claim shortly after you arrive. We will deliver you back to your ticketing counter when you depart.
  • Housing: Staff and students will reside in on-site Liberty University dorms. Meals will be provided by LU dining hall.

  • Early Enrollment: January 1, 2018 through March 30, 2018 ($650)
  • Final Enrollment Dates: March 31, 2018 through May 25, 2018 ($750)

Solo Academy

Solo Academy Programs

  • Solo Academy 1: May 21 - June 1, 2018
  • Solo Academy 2: July 16 - July 27, 2018
  • Solo Academy 3: July 30 - August 10, 2018
  • Liberty University School of Aeronautics & New London Airport

The New Horizons Solo Academy is a program designed to give High School Students who are interested in making a career out of aviation the opportunity to accomplish their first solo flight in an airplane. This will be accomplished through a high-intensity two-week program consisting of ground and flight training. There are three academy sections offered each summer.

Eligibility

  • High School Students that are at least 16 years of age
  • Hold a valid FAA Medical Certificate (at least a 3rd class)

Cost

  • $1,000 - includes:
    • Required ground knowledge
    • Logbook, notebook, and a t-shirt
    • Required flight training up to 10 hours
    • Each additional hour will be $100

Private Pilot Certificate Course

  • June 4 - July 6, 2018
  • Liberty University School of Aeronautics & New London Airport

The New Horizons Private Pilot Certificate course is a comprehensive, 14 CFR Part 61 training program consisting of highly structured ground and flight training lessons designed to equip high school students with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully complete their Private Pilot Training.

Eligibility

  • High School Students that will be 17 years of age before the FAA checkride
  • Successfully completed the New Horizons Solo Academy
  • Hold a valid FAA Medical Certificate (at least a 3rd class)
  • Hold a valid Student Pilot Certificate
  • Completed your FAA Private Pilot Written test before the start date of the course
