Student Work

Part-time jobs are available on and off-campus for students who seek to obtain employment through the federal Work-Study program or other student employment.

Federal Work Study

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally funded program providing part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students based on need as determined by their financial aid application.

Earnings are estimated at $4,000 annually; however, students may earn up to their need as determined by the FAFSA. FWS cannot be included toward payment of the semester bill or Financial Check-In since it depends on the student securing a position and working the hours during the semester.

(FWS does not necessarily provide money for tuition but is an opportunity to work and earn income for expenses while in school)

Typically, federal work-study student workers work no more than 20 hours per week. Students located in the Lynchburg, VA area during the semester are eligible to apply for FWS if it is offered on their Award Letter Notification.

Student workers typically will not be permitted to work remotely, the exception to this general policy would be graduate research students who are approved for remote work and graduate students performing tutoring services. Students working remotely must be approved by Human Resources.
