Federal law requires employers to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all employees (both citizens and noncitizens) hired to work in the United States. To meet these requirements, Liberty University uses the Form I-9 within Workday and E-Verify for all newly hired faculty and staff.
E-Verify is an Internet-based system that compares information from an employee’s Form I-9 to records available to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to confirm employment eligibility.
Section 1: Completed via Workday by the employee. Must be completed by the first day of employment.
Section 2: Completed in person by the employee. Original identification documents must be provided. Photocopies will NOT be accepted. View a list of acceptable identification documents here. Per federal law, section 2 must be completed no later than 3 days from hire. A delay in completing this section will lead to the termination of the employee.
- Residential employees must bring original identification documentation to the HR offices.
- Remote employees must send a signed affidavit, a completed I-9 form, and identification documents to HR@liberty.edu. This must be signed by the employee and a notary or CUPA representative.
After I-9 process has been completed, all remaining onboarding steps are completed within Workday
