Liberty University Symphony Orchestra

L.U.S.O.

The Liberty University Symphony Orchestra (LUSO) is an auditioned instrumental ensemble consisting of string, winds and percussion instrumentalists. The ensemble performs standard orchestral repertoire drawn from all periods of music.

The LUSO is the premier instrumental symphony group on campus, which performs concerts both on and off campus in the Spring and Fall semesters. One tour in the Fall and one tour in the Spring encompass the schedule of this exciting ensemble. The LUSO aims to prepare excellent performers for a career with the major symphony orchestras in the United States.

Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester.  The one credit hour course (MUSC 185/485) is open to both music majors and non-majors for credit or CSER. To audition, contact Dr. John Kinchen.

Auditions for Symphony Orchestra

I. Step One:  If you've not yet auditioned for the Symphony Orchestra, it's not too late!  To schedule an audition time please email the director, Dr. John Kinchen, at jkinchen@liberty.edu.

II. Step Two:  Download/view the PDF score from the list below that corresponds with your instrument.

Students auditioning on instruments for which there is no audition excerpt provided in the above listing should prepare a solo piece to perform.

II. Step Three:  Print and prepare the excerpt, and bring it with you to your audition.  Please be prepared to perform a solo selection that you are comfortable with, as well as scales up to five sharps or flats.
