What Will You Study in Our Directing and Playwriting Degree?
The core courses in this program cover a broad range of theatrical topics, from acting and stagecraft to theatre history and script analysis. You’ll also study theatrical design, stage management, and the integration of faith and art. By understanding how Christian faith and values can be incorporated into stage productions, you can develop potential to create shows and performances that highlight important messages and help point people toward the truth of the Gospel.
Within the playwriting and directing specialization, you’ll complete an acting workshop, which can help make you a better writer and director by allowing you to understand what a production is like from the cast members’ perspective. Additionally, you’ll dive into motion picture directing, giving you a chance to branch out into other industry areas. From there, you’ll examine various theories and methodologies in the art of directing and study how to craft scripts that are creative and keep audiences invested in your stories. By melding all of these skills, you could carry out important behind-the-scenes work in theatre and coordinate productions effectively to make a masterpiece.
Lastly, you’ll have several opportunities to receive practical experience and training for your future career. You’ll complete 2 theatre practicums as well as a seminar focusing on establishing a career in professional theatre. Your senior capstone course will give you a chance to apply skills and techniques you’ve studied throughout the program – so you can build your portfolio and pursue entering the workforce that interests you.

How Do You Become a BA Theatre Arts – Playwriting and Directing Student?
Every application is reviewed by the admission committee on a case-by-case basis, meaning there are no set minimums for acceptance. However, all applicants must submit the following documents* for admission:
- Admission application
- Official high school transcripts
- Official college transcripts (if applicable)
- Admission essay
Results from the CLT, SAT, or ACT are not required for admission, but may be used in consideration for merit-based aid.
