The Most Exciting Ministry Opportunity of 2021

Upon entering the Ministry Fair, I was struck by one thing: people were genuinely excited to be there. People were laughing and smiling and handing out flyers and candy. Students chatted with employers with a nonchalant ease I hadn’t really seen at many events like this because they were united by a common faith. They exchanged handshakes and contact information, and, each time, it seemed as if they were honestly having a good time, like they were unapologetically pleased with the work they had done.
The Ministry Fair Experience
Each of the 42 booths was occupied by a staff with a unique calling and an opportunity for students to take advantage of. One booth I visited, Cru or Campus Crusade for Christ International, was quite literally full of energy. They had candy and canned expressos ready to go for those interested. The staffers themselves were as energetic as their refreshments, eager to answer any questions I had. They had such a wide variety of ministry opportunities for students that over half of my time with them was spent discussing jobs and internships in fields from technology and marketing to humanitarian aid and music, all in service of their broader mission.
“Cru is a very large missions organization. We serve people all over the world and the country. We’re very focused on where are there not discipleship communities and how do we start something in that place,” said Ross Nelson, a member of the Cru team. He later told me: “Being part of a large organization was nice for me to be able to figure out what am I good at.”
I left their booth at the ministry fair surprised by both the sheer warmth and the number of opportunities on display there. Within two seconds, it felt like I was friends with everyone at that table, like I was a part of something bigger, and I hadn’t even signed a thing. If I had, I know I could have found something there relevant to my passions that aligned with God’s calling for my life.
And that was just one table. Now imagine that happening simultaneously at 42 different tables with corresponding locations all over the US and the world for three entire hours. That’s what the Ministry Fair was like.
