GRADE POINT AVERAGE
The grade point average is listed at the end of each semester for that semester; the cumulative GPA† is at the end of the transcript. The formula for calculating this is:
GPA = Quality Points divided by GPA Credit Hours
†The cumulative GPA for each academic level (e.g., undergraduate, graduate) includes all grades in that level, regardless of prior degree conferral, broken enrollment, or a program/major change.
REPEATED GRADES
Starting in the fall of 1979, students were permitted to apply the repeat policy to a course by requesting that the previous grade be changed to an “R” and the original grade be removed from the GPA calculation. Beginning in the fall of 2012, for undergraduate courses, and the fall of 2014, for the graduate/doctoral courses, the repeat policy was changed so that the student’s original grade remains on the transcript, but will not be calculated into their GPA calculation. Beginning in the fall of 2019 for undergraduate courses and for graduate/doctoral courses, the repeat policy was changed so that the student’s lowest grade remains on the transcript, but will not be calculated into their GPA calculation. These changes may also be applied in semesters prior to their implementation at the discretion of the Registrar’s Office.
The following letters may appear to the right of individual course grades next to the quality points:
A – The grade is included in the GPA hours.
E – The grade is excluded from both the earned hours and the GPA
hours.
I – The grade is included in both the earned hours and the
GPA hours.
