Earning an Alpha Phi Sigma lifetime membership is a distinguished honor. The Alpha Phi Sigma national office preserves a permanent record of your membership, which you can use on your applications to graduate schools and jobs. In addition, as a member, you’ll be eligible to wear Alpha Phi Sigma regalia at graduation.

Alpha Phi Sigma is a student-led and student-oriented organization. Our faculty advisor is Professor Lawrence Presley.

Note: All Alpha Phi Sigma applications received after May 20, 2016, will be held for processing until the Aug. 25, 2016, through Oct. 15, 2016, open enrollment period. Because of limited staffing in the summer term, emails received for APS related matters will be replied to during the August open enrollment period.

Eligibility

Undergraduate:

  1. Must be a declared major or minor in criminal justice
  2. Must have completed 3 full time semesters
  3. Must have a 3.2 GPA in major and overall
  4. Must have taken a minimum of 4 criminal justice courses

Graduate:

  1. Must be in MS CJUS program
  2. Must have completed 4 courses in the program
  3. Must have a 3.0 GPA

Law School:

  1. Must be enrolled in the Liberty Law School
  2. Must have completed first academic year
  3. Must have a 2.5 GPA

Application Process

  1. Must complete Student Membership Application or Alpha Phi Sigma – Applications –Student Member Application (U.S. Chapters). If your browser does not open the application you will need to change browsers as this is the only link to the application.   
  2. The name of the Chapter is Theta Sigma
  3. Must send application, unofficial transcript, and fees noted below to the Liberty University Alpha Phi Sigma Chapter Advisor:

  4. Must include $50.00 money order to Alpha Phi Sigma Headquarters for membership fee
  5. Must include separate money order to Alpha Phi Sigma – Theta Sigma for lifetime local dues based on the following schedule:
    • 12 hours to 15 hours of undergraduate CJUS courses: $20.00
    • 18 hours to 24 hours of undergraduate CJUS courses: $25.00
    • 27 hours of greater of undergraduate CJUS courses: $30.00
    • Graduate: $30.00
    • Law School: $30.00
  6. Failure to follow the above instructions will result in the return of the application package to the student and ineligibility of re-application until the next application period.  

Regalia Process

  1. Must be a member of Alpha Phi Sigma
  2. Click on Regalia Tab at http://www.alphaphisigma.org/honor-regalia.html
  3. Fill out the “Honor Regalia Form – Advisors Only” form event though you are not an advisor. Instead of advisor name, address, email and phone use your name, complete address, email, and phone. This enables us to track the orders.
    • Check what regalia items you wish to order, tally the total, and add the shipping fee.
    • Send the Regalia Order form to the Alpha Phi Sigma Club Advisor:

  4.   Include the following in the regalia order:
    • Money order for the total amount of the order and shipping. Money order to Alpha Phi Sigma Headquarters.
  5. Proof of membership – a copy of your APS certificate is fine
  6. Failure to follow the above instructions will result in the return of the regalia order and ineligibility of re-application until the next application period.

Due Dates

  1. Fall Open Application Membership Period: Aug. 25 through Oct. 15
  2. Spring Open Application Membership Period: Jan. 20 through March 1
  3. Regalia Order Open Order Period: Jan. 20 through March 15
  4. You may only apply during the above time frames. Applications sent outside these time frames will be held until the next open application period and processed at that time!
