What is a Campus Security Authority (CSA)?
A CSA is responsible for reporting criminal offenses that occur on the university’s crime reporting geography. These include not just police and security officers but also those specified in the Statement of Campus Security Authority. If you are responsible for students or campus activities, you are a CSA. Some examples of CSAs are staff within LU departments like the Office of Community Life or the Office of Equity and Compliance, also if you are a Resident Assistant, Athletics Coach, or Faculty Advisor to a Student Club.
CSA Responsibilities
CSAs are responsible to report:
- A description of the incident
- The date and time the incident occurred
- The date and time the incident was reported to the CSA
- Exact location of the incident
As a CSA, when a Clery crime is reported, you should…
If needed, encourage the victim to seek medical care
Ask how you can offer support
PLEASE REMEMBER:
Some Clery reportable crimes, such as sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking are also Title IX violations. Based on your role with the University you may be a CSA and a Title IX Responsible Employee. If you are both, please make sure you follow both processes for reporting (report to LUPD and the Office of Equity and Compliance). If you have questions about this, please reach out to the Office of Equity and Compliance for assistance. To submit a report to the OEC, click here.
All CSAs are required to provide the Notice of Rights and Options to anyone who reports a VAWA crime (sexual offenses, stalking, dating/domestic violence).
