Simulation Center Resources for Current Students
Simulation Center Overview: What to Expect
During week one and two of the semester, some courses (NURS 356, NURS 357, NURS 301/302, NURS 460) include a skill day to demonstrate new skills or review and check off on previously learned skills.
Scheduled Lab Days
Four hour Lab days occur on Mondays for NURS 221 and on Fridays for NURS 210. These lab days offer new skill demonstration, and practice to help students prepare for filmed check offs (FCOs).
When your clinical group has “simulation day”, you will rotate with your group and clinical instructor, out of the hospital and into the Simulation Center for interaction with high fidelity manikins and standardized patients. These simulation days offer you the opportunity to be at the patient bedside, in a safe, non-threatening, encounter. NURS 301 simulation day is unique as it begins with IV scenarios and practice on the IV manikin arms, giving you time to practice IV assessment, insertion, and IV medication delivery prior to using this new skill in your assessment and nursing care of a simulated patient.
