Spirit Band

The Liberty University Spirit Band is the “pep band” for Liberty University, performing primarily at home basketball games and postseason play. Performances for other sports may include hockey, lacrosse, and volleyball. The ensemble rehearses Sunday evenings from November through March. The Spirit Band performs a wide variety of musical selections before large public audiences in attendance at athletic events as well as radio and television audiences. This ensemble travels with the basketball teams during postseason play, which involves fun trips where the members make lifetime memories.

The membership is comprised of approximately 30 auditioned Liberty University students, led by Dr. Thomas P. Goddard. Placement for all positions is considered open and is not necessarily dependent on prior-year membership. Tuition-based scholarships are available for all participants and are applied to Spring semester financial aid. Since post-season play is important for supporting the basketball teams, Wind Symphony tour and LUID performances conflict with this requirement, therefore Wind Symphony and LUID members are not eligible to be in the Spirit Band. Rehearsals will be held in the Band Room (160) on Sundays, 7-8:30pm beginning Sunday, November 6th.

Auditions for the 2022-2023 Spirit Band will take place on Sunday, October 23rd, @ 6pm in 059 (Instrumental Commons).

Our first rehearsal will be held on Sunday, November 6th, 7-8:30pm in 160 (Band Room).
