Biography

Heather Mason is an Associate Professor in the Respiratory Therapy Program in the School of Health Sciences at Liberty University. She earned her Respiratory Care degree from Polk State College, her B.S. in Child, Family, and Consumer Science (with an education concentration) from Florida State University, and her Masters in Health Care Administration from Liberty University.

In previous roles, Heather served as an Advanced Practice Respiratory Specialist in an administrative leadership role within the hospital setting. In this role, she acted as a consultant to the multidisciplinary team and was responsible for writing and implementing standard operating practices, skills competencies, and clinical practice protocols. Heather held a distinguished career in adult, pediatric, and neonatal critical care. She was responsible for developing and overseeing research initiatives, quality improvement projects, specialty-based programming, community-based agendas, and evidence-based policy in a multidisciplinary setting.

One of Heather’s primary research interests lies in pediatric asthma and bronchiolitis, where she focuses on improving physician and patient/family disease management strategies, advancing respiratory care practices, and exploring innovative solutions for better outcomes in pediatric populations. Her work in this area has contributed to several quality improvement projects within the hospital setting and community-based initiatives aimed at enhancing asthma management and education for families and healthcare providers.

Heather has also mentored and trained Respiratory Care students as a Clinical Instructor at Polk State College. She has been responsible for teaching students across clinical settings, assisting them with skills competency and laboratory skills performance. Additionally, she served on the Respiratory Care Advisory Board for Polk State College, providing input into the development and improvement of clinical, lab, and didactic programming.
