Individual Counseling

Career Counseling sessions provide students with the opportunity to visit with a professional career counselor and discuss a variety of career-related topics.  The counselors are experienced in guiding major/minor decisions, FOCUS II assessment test results, career exploration, resume and cover letter development, interview skills, graduate school preparation and job or internship search strategies.

Career counseling sessions last approximately 30-60 minutes and are tailored to meet the individual needs of the student. These appointments can be scheduled in the Career Center or by filling out the Appointment Request Form.

The Career Center currently offers in-person Career Counseling appointments to resident students, and phone appointments to online students.  Contact the Career Center with questions about appointment availability.*

Group Counseling

Group Counseling involves a group of 6–10 students who meet together weekly along with professional career counselors, trained to help people work through career related issues. A group offers you a venue to realize that you are not alone in the difficulty of choosing a career, as well as the opportunity to hear ideas from others. The Career Interest group provides a safe atmosphere where you can express your ideas and feelings, concerning career decisions. Consider the encouragement you will be able to gain by observing others’ successes, as you work together to create an effective career plan.

Career Interest Groups meet once a week for 4 weeks. They last for approximately 1 hour and meet the students’ needs by integrating their individual experience into their career plans. If interested in joining, submit an appointment request or stop by the Career Center.

*Due to limited staff, the Career Center can only make phone appointments with online students. Phone appointments will be scheduled for 30 minute blocks of time. Follow-up phone appointments may be scheduled when necessary.  Resident students are welcome to meet with a Career Counselor in person at the Career Center office.
