Provost Research Initiative (PRI)


Where the QEP funding is limited to residential undergraduate faculty and students, PRI funding will support all LU faculty and students in the areas of research and scholarship. The PRI will be administered by the Center for Research & Scholarship (CRS) and The Graduate School in conjunction with the Provost Office. PRI provides funds to students and faculty to support research and scholarship through the following awards.  Here are the recent PRI funded research awards.

Faculty Professional Development Awards

Supports professional development opportunities for faculty involved in teaching and/or mentoring students in research and scholarship. These funds support travel related to developing an effective and well-informed research program.


Research Project Awards

Deadline: February 1, 2018

Supports faculty or student research projects. These funds resource the purchase of equipment, supplies, travel (including overseas), consultation fees, student stipends, or other support services needed for the execution of research projects.


Research Event Awards

Supports faculty or student research events hosted by LU schools/colleges for internal and/or external participants. These funds resource speaker honorariums, travel hosting, supplies, food services, advertising, printing, and monetary awards related to the execution of an effective research event.


Faculty Scholarship Awards

Supports faculty fees and costs associated with publication or presentation of research. 


Faculty Release

Deadline: February 1, 2018

The PRI supports release time or compensation for faculty involved in research. Deans may nominate faculty members for release time. The release may be spread over two semesters or used within one semester. Additionally, recipients can apply separately for additional funding for items including, but not limited to, supplies, travel, and other support services. Faculty release and/or compensation may span multi-years based on an annual review. Faculty are eligible for release approval even if previously approved in another application cycle. 


Student Research Presentation Awards

Supports travel expenses for student researchers who have been accepted to present their research at an external event (e.g., a conference, symposium, or exhibition). Students awarded travel funding must travel to the conference and be a significant contributor to the research project/creative work.
