Budget management is an ongoing practice. Managers should be viewing their budgets on a regular basis to ensure accuracy and keep fund availability on track.
Tracking encumbrances and Purchase Orders is key in good budget management, and is fairly easy to do in ASIST. Under the Finance heading in ASIST, select Encumbrance Query and set your parameters – typically, querying by Organization code alone is best.

Managers, working with Procurement and Accounts Payable, need to assess whether documents can be closed and funds released back to the budget.
