Biography

Dr. Derek Parker is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania with more than 18 years of experience as a master’s-level clinician, clinical supervisor, and agency director. Throughout his career, he has served children, adolescents, families, couples, and individuals experiencing addiction-related concerns. His professional interests include emerging adulthood, addiction counseling, couples counseling, and clinical supervision. Much of his experience has been in community mental health settings, and he currently practices in a group private practice.

Dr. Parker currently serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Counselor Education and Family Studies. He regularly presents at state, regional, and national conferences. His research interests include catfishing and online deception, sexual shame, emerging adulthood, wellness, and clinical supervision. He also holds leadership roles within the counseling profession, serving as Director-at-Large of the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA), Treasurer of the North Atlantic Region of the American Counseling Association, and a member of several national committees. In addition, he serves on the editorial review boards of the Journal of the Pennsylvania Counseling Association and Counseling and Values.
