If you are not familiar with Altavista, I would invite you to visit. We have a lovely town with ample natural and civic resources. We are working to offer more services to both our membership and our community. I am the sole employee of the Chamber, with our office housed in the Altavista Train Station building. We could use assistance with many aspects of ‘refreshing’ our Chamber from web design and photography to writing standard operating procedures.
Additionally, we would like to explore the idea of adding a workforce development program in the interest of assisting high school students and adults with workforce readiness. Topics may include basic Microsoft skills (Excel, Outlook, Word), customer service, basic computer and/or IT skills, or familiarity. I am just in the beginning stages of planning such a program and would welcome input or suggestions. We may work with the Spark Innovation Center to offer a may robust program.

Description
JOB OVERVIEW
Crescent Project is seeking serious-minded Christ-followers to serve as interns this summer (2023) from anywhere in the world!
Our Virtual Internship is an intensive, hands-on experience for committed Christians interested in becoming spiritual leaders and trailblazers in Muslim ministry.
The goal of Crescent Project’s Virtual Internship is to coach spiritual leaders how to love, understand and make disciples of Muslims.
Interns are led by seasoned coaches with decades of experience serving Muslims. Coaches lead interns through a combination of challenging academic work and hands-on training, centered around three core components:
LOVE: Through the coaching process, interns develop a deep love for Muslim people.
UNDERSTAND: Through weekly discussions, presentations, reading, and journaling, interns grow in their understanding of Muslim people and Islam.
MAKE DISCIPLES: Through weekly interactions with Muslims, interns seek to persuade Muslims to follow Jesus and to disciple them.
STRUCTURE
- The 2023 Virtual Internship will commence the week of May 22 and complete the week of August 4 for a total of 10 weeks, 12 hours each week. Interns will be off the week of July 4.
- Interns will be divided into 2-3 cohorts of 5-10 that will meet weekly on Zoom for discussion and to work together on various projects.
- Interns will meet with a coach weekly in groups of 2-5 for more focused direction.
- Interns will develop relationships with Muslims and disciple Christians from Muslim Backgrounds (CMB).
- Interns must pick one of two tracks: Local or Digital. The Local track is focused on reaching Muslims in the intern’s local area while the Digital track concentrates on engaging Muslims in digital communities online. All interns are encouraged to map out their local areas to discover where Muslims live and work.
- Interns will develop and enact an Internship Ministry Plan which will provide the platform for their ministry to Muslims and to influence their local/digital team.(see below)
- Interns will complete assignments weekly: prayer, reading, writing, videos etc.….
COACHES:
The role of the coach is essential for the success of each intern and he/she will work with interns weekly over the internship. Coaches keep interns moving forward with their Internship Ministry Plans by listening to interns, asking precise questions, and by identifying actions that interns need to take each week. Ultimately, our coaches want to see every intern develop as a spiritual leader who loves, understands, and makes disciples of Muslims. Interns will prepare to meet with their coaches each week by filling out a form that tracks their progress from week to week to accomplish the ‘action steps’ the intern and coach agreed upon the previous week. Coaches also look over weekly assignments. Coaches are assigned by Crescent Project according to the same gender of the coach and the intern (e.g., women with women, men with men etc.…).
INTERNSHIP MINISTRY PLAN (IMP):
The Internship Ministry Plan gives interns the opportunity to creatively design their own plan to engage Muslims with the Gospel, to influence Christians, and to build their own ministry team. There are three components to the IMP: a Crescent Project initiative component, a team building/influence component, and an outreach component. The IMP contains a detailed plan and steps of how and when each stage of the IMP will be accomplished. While creativity comes more naturally to some than others, all interns have a measure of creativity after their Creator. Coaches will meet weekly with interns to help them use their creativity and to put it into action over the course of the internship.
HOW TO APPLY
All internships normally have a cost of $1000 but a full scholarship will be offered to all applicants from Liberty University who apply before May 15, 2023. There is an application fee and interns must buy their books (see syllabus). A limited number of interns will be accepted then there will be a waiting list. Though the internship does not pay a stipend, interns who are interested in continuing to serve with Crescent Project and who successfully complete the internship may have the opportunity to compete for a paid fellowship.
Visit the link above to listen to our podcast from one of our former interns, read over the syllabus, and fill out the interest form! Email the Internship Director at interns@cphope.org if you have questions.
