Overview: 

Service is the sacrificial giving of self. This includes our time, talent and treasure as an act of worship. Jesus is our greatest model of what servant leadership looks like. Jesus turns this world’s definitions of leadership, power, influence, authority, greatness & being in charge on its head. He washes the feet of his disciples to serve them. Jesus shows them the towel before the cross, the towel prepares us for the cross. Jesus is saying “If you want to lead like me, become a sacrificial servant”. Jesus served those who could never repay him. Jesus served those who had every intention to betray him. We want to bring our good deeds to the light and keep the bad in the shadows, but Jesus calls us to bring our bad to the light and keep the good in the shadows.

Questions:

What would you do if you knew you had less than a week to live?

How do you move from doing random acts of kindness to living a life of servanthood as Jesus modeled for us?

Do you have a towel or a bib?

Do you only serve those who can give you something in return?

Do you enter your relationships and interactions with the assumption that you know what others need, or are you humble enough to ask?

If you were no longer honored for any good thing you currently do, would you continue to do it?
