New Business Hall of Fame to honor President Jerry Falwell and the Rev. Jerry Falwell

The Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance is launching the region’s first Business Hall of Fame, and among the inductees are Liberty University’s founder, Jerry Falwell Sr., and its current president, Jerry Falwell.

The Hall of Fame will honor leaders who have significantly impacted business, industry, and the community in the Lynchburg region.

“I’m truly honored that both my father and I will be inducted into the Lynchburg Business Hall of Fame,” Jerry Falwell said. “We fought so hard together to make Liberty University what it is today. The growth that we have seen since those days of financial distress is truly astounding. My father had already fought through 20 difficult years before I joined him in the fight for another 20 years. The challenge was too great to be completed in one person’s lifetime. I’m grateful to be president of this great university and humbled to be recognized for the positive impact we are having on the Lynchburg area’s economy.”

According to a news release from the Alliance, the first honorees “are as recognizable as a leading household brand, critical to our existing business landscape.”

“These individuals are proof that the success of family legacies and businesses are built upon foundations of endurance, sacrifice, and passion, which foster sustainable growth and contribute to our unique culture and thriving community,” said Alliance chair Stefanie Prokity.

The inaugural class of the Lynchburg Business Hall of Fame also includes:

  • A. C. “Buzzy” Coleman Jr., Coleman-Adams Construction Inc.
  • Hal C. Craddock, Architectural Partners, chief architect for the Craddock Terry Hotel, and his great grandfather, John W. Craddock, Craddock Terry Shoe Company
  • Dr. Charlie W. Pryor Jr., BWX Technologies Inc.
  • Marc A. Schewel and his grandfather, Ben Schewel, and his great uncle, Abe Schewel, Schewel Furniture Company Inc.
  • Shaun Spencer-Hester and her grandmother, Anne Bethel Spencer, Anne Spencer House and Garden Museum

The class will be formally inducted at a gala on Nov. 3 at the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance. The Hall of Fame will be permanently housed in the Alliance’s headquarters.

The Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance is the region’s largest business association.
