The Journey radio station named Medium Market Station of the Year

Only a few months after celebrating its 10-year anniversary, Liberty University’s radio station, 88.3 – The Journey FM, has been recognized by Christian Music Broadcasters as the 2025 Medium Market Station of the Year.

The award was presented during CMB’s annual Momentum event in Orlando, Fla., on May 30. Journey Business Development Director Becky Mahle received the award on behalf of the station.

“The Journey staff was thrilled to be nominated and selected as a CMB Station of the Year,” said General Manager Mark Edwards. “It is especially significant given that we are celebrating 10 years of ministry and outreach. And we are not only thankful to CMB but also to Liberty University and our listeners for their support. The recognition is a culmination of faithfulness and work.”

The Journey was named a finalist in 2022 and 2020 and was runner-up in 2017.

Launched on Dec. 26, 2014, The Journey features testimonies of transformed lives, stories of hope, and music that glorifies God and encourages listeners on their “journey” with Christ. Through this mission, the station continues the work of Liberty founder Dr. Jerry Falwell, who began his television and radio show “Old-Time Gospel Hour” in the 1950s. The station also broadcasts Liberty Flames Football games.

Falwell started the first campus radio station, The Victory Network, in 1981. The Victory Network remained a prominent part of the Liberty community for over 30 years, primarily broadcasting teaching and preaching programs before its evolution into The Journey.

Since its launch, The Journey has expanded to reach listeners around the country and even the globe. The network, supported by listeners from 47 states and four countries, broadcasts on eight full-power FM stations and 10 translators in Virginia and North Carolina, as well as live on its website, myjourneyfm.com, and The Journey app.

In April, The Journey staff held an anniversary celebration at the Liberty Mountain Conference Center, with current and former radio staff, university leadership, and longtime listeners and supporters sharing how the station has positively impacted their lives and countless others.
