Step 2: Occupational Health and Safety Training & Program Enrollment

The Liberty University IACUC, in consultation with LU Environmental Health & Safety, has developed an occupational health program for animal users. This program is intended to identify risks, implement safety controls, and provide preventative training for animal use personnel.

 

Step 3: Laboratory or Department Specific Training

Additional training may be required or provided by your department or lab, depending on the nature of the work being performed, and the species of animal(s) being used. It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator to ensure that this training is provided, as required.

Short-Term Researchers

Short-term researchers must complete the necessary training steps above prior to beginning work with animals.

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) routinely publishes acceptable standards and guidelines for the proper euthanasia of animals. Review the most current guidelines by following the link below:
