Big-name bands ready to rock Winterfest 2011

Some of the biggest names in Christian music will be at Liberty University to ring in 2012 for the largest Christian New Year’s party on the East Coast, Winterfest 2011.

This two-day festival will be held Dec. 30-31 in the Vines Center. On Friday night, Skillet, Family Force 5, Hawk Nelson, and Finding Favour will perform with featured speaker Bob Lenz. On New Year’s Eve, Switchfoot, Tenth Avenue North, RED, Trip Lee, and Anthem Lights will take the stage. Liberty’s campus pastor Clayton King will emcee the evening and will be a keynote speaker with Matt Pitt.

Now in its 11th year, this event is popular for church youth groups and college students, drawing more than 6,000 guests.

Liberty University admissions counselor Matthew Hockensmith has been coordinating the event.

“The purpose of Winterfest is to ring in the New Year from a Christian perspective and showcase Liberty and what we stand for. Liberty is a place where we learn about God’s word and have fun at the same time,” he said. “Many high school students make New Year’s resolutions by making the decision to put God first and rededicate their lives.”

With concerts in the evening, the two days at Liberty are filled with fun activities, with participants granted full access to campus recreational facilities, including skiing, snowboarding, and tubing at Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre, ice skating at LaHaye Ice Center, and basketball, indoor rock climbing, swimming and indoor soccer.

Liberty is also offering campus tours and a chance to meet some of the featured Winterfest artists.
