Former Lady Flames soccer player signs with pro team in Sweden

Two-time All-Big South Conference first-team women’s soccer forward Isabella Habuda, who graduated from Liberty University in May, has signed a professional contract to play with Umea IK in Sweden.

“It is a very difficult task to play at the professional level in any sport and … a fantastic achievement for Bella to make a competitive team in Sweden,” Lady Flames Head Coach Lang Wedemeyer said. “She was an incredibly influential player for Liberty these last couple of years, and we are excited to see how her game progresses with an international team.”

Habuda transferred to Liberty from Louisville University before her junior season and finished her two-year career with the Lady Flames as the 11th-leading scorer in program history with 16 goals and 9 assists. In 2017, Habuda led the Big South with four game-winning goals in conference play.

“I am excited to continue my soccer career on a professional level,” Habuda said. “I have trained my whole life for this moment. The discipline required to play college soccer, working with your teammates and playing at high levels are all qualities I am going to take to Sweden with me. Each day I step on the field is a day where I am able to prove myself.”

Originally from Belle River, Ontario, Habuda competed with the U17 Canadian National team in 2012.
