A Gift with a Purpose

Reader, do the gifts we give have a defined purpose?  Our motivation for giving gifts is usually to witness the joy that the gift brings to the recipient.  This alone is a great reason to give gifts as we want to have a small part in making someone happy.  Sadly, this happiness is usually temporary and quickly forgotten.

What would happen if we gave a gift that had a deeper and lasting purpose?  What if we worked on the areas of our life that we are not very proud of?  Many of us are impatient and our loved ones know it.  Many of us are too blunt and abrasive and we are well aware that we need to work on that.

1 Timothy 4:7-8 reads, "Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths.  Rather, train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."

As an online community, let us encourage each other to train for spiritual growth.

One of the best gifts we could give our loved ones and friends would be for us to grow in our relationship with Jesus.  We can put on the fruits of the Spirit (see Galatians 5:22-23) and make an effort to be loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle and self-controlled.

We cannot put our fruits of the Spirit under the Christmas tree; however, over time our loved ones will take notice that we are becoming more like Christ.  That is a great gift.

God bless.
