Liberty to host SAT tests

Liberty University is now an official site for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), one of the primary indicators of whether aspiring college freshmen meet entrance requirements at most colleges.

Liberty will provide five opportunities for high school students to take the SAT on campus this academic year.

The scheduled testing dates are Dec. 3, Jan. 28, March 10, May 5 and June 2.

Before taking the SAT, students must register for the test through The College Board.

“It’s a chance to showcase the excellent academic facilities that we have that even local students may not be aware of,” said Brian Yates, Dean of the Center for Academic Support and Advising Services (CASAS) at Liberty. “Most local students maybe have seen the football stadium or gone to the Vines Center, but may not have actually been in the classrooms or seen the faculty and staff in action.”

Liberty’s Director of Testing Jim Wagner said The College Board contacted the university about becoming a SAT testing site. The university was approved as a testing site in August.

Liberty is set up to test about 100 students in each session. The sessions will be held in classrooms in Arthur S. DeMoss Learning Center.

According to Yates, Liberty is one of the largest College-Level Exam Program (CLEP) testing centers in the country, which is one of the reasons The College Board asked the university to consider becoming a SAT testing site.

The SAT is the most widely used college admission test which assesses students’ reading, writing and math skills and how well they apply knowledge. Most SAT tests are offered several times per year, and most high school students take the SAT during their junior or senior years.
