New scholarship available to eligible incoming missionary children

As part of its commitment to furthering the Great Commission, Liberty University recently launched a new missionary scholarship, which grants full tuition to children of missionaries with the organizations Liberty works most closely with.

Beginning in the Spring 2014 semester, the scholarship is available to new resident, undergraduate students who are dependent children of missionaries actively serving in the field and affiliated with any of Liberty’s strategic mission partners (view the full list of partners at www.Liberty.edu/MissionsScholarships). Students must also be U.S. citizens. In order to remain eligible for the scholarship, students must maintain full-time consecutive enrollment and Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress.

“This initiative is Exhibit A of Liberty’s commitment to do as much as possible to bless missionaries and to help expedite the completion of the Great Commission,” said Johnnie Moore, senior vice president for communications. “No other educational institution in Christian history has had a greater opportunity to reach the world in a generation. Liberty views this not just as an opportunity but as a responsibility.”

Moore noted that the scholarship was initiated by President Jerry Falwell, Jr., who recommended it in his personal presentation to Liberty’s Board of Trustees on Nov. 15.

“President Jerry Falwell has provided Liberty’s Center for Global Engagement with all the resources needed to do something historic, and we intend on doing it,” Moore said.

“Liberty has offered generous assistance to dependent children of International Mission Board missionaries since 2004,” Falwell added. “We are blessed to be able to now expand this scholarship program to include a large number of missionary organizations that share Liberty’s objectives for fulfilling the Great Commission.”

To apply for this scholarship, students may obtain an application online from Liberty’s Forms Library.
