Zondervan’s Bible Across America bus rolled onto Liberty University’s campus Tuesday morning to continue the mission of completing a handwritten Bible for the 30th anniversary of the leading Bible publisher’s New International Version.

Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. often says Liberty University students are the best — and the results of his campus-wide campaign to register student voters locally is giving him one more reason to believe it. As of Monday’s 4 p.m. registration deadline, LU Commuter Affairs officials had collected and submitted 4,200 forms to the Lynchburg, Va., city registrar.

Fresh off their victory at Georgia State University, the Liberty Debate team travelled to Clarion University last week where they extended an impressive early-season streak, winning both the varsity and novice divisions. The Flames finished the preliminary rounds with the top seed in varsity, junior varsity and novice — advancing 13 of their 15 teams to the elimination rounds.

Student Activities sponsored the first Campus Artist Series of the semester Wednesday night in the new Tilley Student Center, showcasing some of the best musical talent on campus. The free concert featured campus bands Stay Seventeen, And Get Up Soldier and Oh Captain.

The Falwells will soon add some Latin-American flavor to their home. Students whose parents are missionaries in Mexico presented several gifts from the country to Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife, Becki, on Friday to show their appreciation for scholarships to attend LU. Among the gifts were a plate from Puebla, a teakwood tray, Oaxaca pottery and a hand-painted coaster set. The sophomore and junior students were Katie Smith, Aaron Johnson, Andrea Flagg, Vasti Ortega, and Emily Boyter.

As part of Liberty University’s latest initiative, “Ultimate LU,” students headed to a camp just outside of Lynchburg on Saturday for a free day of horseback riding.

Liberty University’s extensive trail system played host to its first ever mountain bike race on Saturday: Assault on Liberty Mountain. The event consisted of 125 bikers divided into three categories with skill levels ranging from expert to novice.

Students who enjoy music and fellowship in a coffeehouse-style setting now have a new hangout spot on Campus North, with the opening of Liberty’s Tilley Student Center. The center is located next to the recently renamed LaHaye Student Union, which encompasses the new student center and campus recreational facilities.

During the weekly residence hall meetings, Resident Assistants handed out voter registration forms and coached students on how to fill them out. The forms were turned in to the Office of Student Leadership, allowing the students a hassle-free way of registering and avoiding the cost of postage.
