LU cadets commissioned at special ceremonies

Four United States Air Force cadets were commissioned as officers on May 8 at Liberty University’s first USAF commissioning. The ceremony took place inside a hangar at Falwell Aviation in Lynchburg, Va. The four graduates commissioned were Christopher Davis, Matthew Luthman, Israel Shankel and Nicholas Warren (all pictured above).

Cadet 2nd Lt. Brent Burklo presided over the ceremony, which featured Capt. Ryan Taylor as the keynote speaker. Other distinguished guests included Brig. Gen. Dave Young, Dean of the School of Aeronautics; Capt. Ernie Rogers, aviation department chairman; the Rev. Jonathan Falwell; Dr. Mark Hine, Vice President of Student Affairs, and Lance Cpl. Jonathan Davis.


The Liberty University Reserve Officers’ Training Corps held an Army commissioning on May 8 at Lynchburg’s Kirkley Hotel. The commissioning address was presented by Col. (Ret.) Samuel Palmer. Those commissioned included Jonathan Edds, Joseph Dekreon, Robert Goodin, David Love, Drew Martens, Brittany Murnane, Timothy Shepherd, Brandon Smith, Joshua Swanson, Paul Tillman and Benjamin Walls.
