Alumnus of the Year honored, Meredith Andrews performs

Alumnus Meredith Andrews sang two songs during convocation on Friday, Oct. 8.

Director of Alumni Relations Melissa Small presented the Liberty University Alumnus of the Year award to Giles Hoback, III (’97) during Friday’s convocation, kicking off Homecoming weekend. Hoback is a decorated member of the United States armed forces, and was instrumental in establishing Liberty’s new Alumni Mentoring program.

“Giles believes that as Christians we are all family and family should be able to communicate and reach out to gain knowledge and wisdom for others in the family,” said Small of Hoback’s passion for the mentoring program. “He has worked with youth groups of all sizes across the country and has learned from personal experience that personal interaction and consistent communications are the cornerstones for relationship building and mentoring success.”

Liberty also welcomed contemporary Christian artist and alumnus Meredith Andrews (’07) to convocation on Friday. She performed two songs from her latest album, As Long As It Takes to a crowd of more than 8,000. Andrews, who sang with the Campus Praise Band as a student, also presented a free Homecoming concert to alumni and students on Thursday evening in the Schilling Center. She was joined by her husband, Jacob Sooter, who accompanied her on the keyboard, and their 5-week old son, Maverick.
