Liberty junior libero Macy Phillips and redshirt junior outside hitter Amelia Johnson have both received invitations to try out for the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team this week in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Phillips and Johnson will be among an estimated 214 athletes from 94 colleges showcasing their abilities at the 2020 U.S. Women’s National Team open tryout, which will be held today, Friday, through Sunday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
USA Volleyball will be looking for athletes to compete in two separate U.S. Women’s Collegiate National Team training periods, while also keeping an eye on prospective members of the U.S. Women’s Senior National Team. Both Collegiate National Teams, consisting of 28 players each, will train in Anaheim alongside athletes selected for the U.S. Olympic Women’s Volleyball Team and its coaching staff. The CNT Gold will train July 5-12 plus have an international competition in Southern California. The CNT Anaheim group will train June 21-27 and have a Red-Blue Intrasqaud match in Southern California.
The tryout will be available for viewing through a live stream each day, beginning with Friday’s session at 4 p.m. (EST).
Phillips and Johnson will be the third and fourth Lady Flames in the last three years to be invited to participate in national team tryouts. Anna Gragg participated in the 2018 U.S. Women’s National Team tryout while Casey Goodwin tried out last year.
