Employees recognized for years of service

Liberty University honored 278 employees at its Years of Service Luncheon on Tuesday, July 10, in the club pavilion level of Williams Stadium tower.

This is the second year for the event that honors employees who have hit milestones with the university and its related ministries, having served five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years. To view the names of the employees and years of service, click here.

This year four retirees were also honored: Mr. Robert N. Mateer, Professor of Business (28 years); Dr. Sandra V. Rumore, Professor of Mathematics (28 years); Mrs. Eileen Wagner, Office Manager for Victory FM (27 years); and Mr. Robert C. Rencher, Jr., Associate Professor of Business (21 years).

The event is part of Liberty’s You Matter campaign, a new, university-wide initiative to provide faculty and staff with the resources needed to carry out the university’s mission to be used by God to change students’ lives.

“Years of service matter at Liberty University and seniority matters,” Dr. Ron Godwin, Liberty’s Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost, told employees at the luncheon. “People who’ve invested, sacrificed, dedicated large sections of their adult life to the students of this university matter. They don’t just matter to the senior leadership here at Liberty; I believe firmly with all my heart they matter to God. I believe that what you’ve done, He knows about it, He recognizes, He appreciates it and that’s the most important recognition that any of us can enjoy.”

Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. asked all to stand, by their years of service, and presented the plaques to the retirees. Employees’ pictures were taken with Falwell and his wife, Becki, following the luncheon.

“We are blessed at Liberty with the best faculty and staff in the world,” Falwell said. “I knew that when I was here (as a student), and I hear that all the time from our students … they are not just here to make a living, they really take a personal interest in all the students and the students go out of their way to tell us that.”
