Sweet land of Liberty: Williams Stadium hosts Celebrate America

Thousands ascended on the Liberty University campus Sunday for Celebrate America, Thomas Road Baptist Church’s annual celebration of America’s independence.

Held every year on the Sunday before July 4, Celebrate America is one of the largest public events at Liberty University. Admission is free.

The festivities began at 3 p.m. in Williams Stadium, with carnival slides and bounce houses for kids, food, games and music. A car show featuring antique vehicles and specially customized cars and trucks began at 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Liberty’s newest eatery, Doc’s Diner.

Just after 7 p.m., motorcycles roared in to Williams Stadium for the annual Thunder on the Mountain parade, followed by a musical celebration at center field, featuring country, rock, Motown, big band and patriotic music. As it does every year, the church honored veterans with special music and commemorative medals.

As the music ended, guests were treated to a spectacular fireworks display.
