LU alumnus brings message of love

Dr. Randy Rebold, LU alumnus and seven-time Emmy award winning songwriter and producer, energized Monday morning convocation with a talk on Christian love.

“We are the body. The Jesus in me loves the Jesus in you,” he said. “But He tells me that I should tell you (I love you) … we’re not even doing that. Let’s start communicating that we love one another.”

He said he did not learn this from his family, who shied away from affection, but from his wife. He learned to say those three words and eight letters, “I love you,” and not have to “qualify it.”

Rebold graduated from LU in 1976 with a degree in youth work and was ordained in 1980 at Thomas Road Baptist Church. He is the president/founder of Primary Focus, an organization that sends teams of college-aged young people to perform musical assemblies at elementary schools throughout the United States. The teams teach positive choices and key principles to building character. When Primary Focus is not in schools, it is performing as Living Proof, with a contemporary Christian concert format, at churches.

Rebold’s organization, based out of Knoxville, Tenn., has a need for more people who are willing to spend a year in service. In exchange, he said, students will be able to attend a year at Liberty tuition-free (or enroll in DLP classes free). For more information on Primary Focus, go to www.primaryfocus.org.
