Students participate in Jungle Camp

During Spring Break this week, some Liberty University students are participating in “Jungle Camp,” a five-day, in-depth college-level missions course held in central Pennsylvania.

Also called “College Wayumi” (Wayumi is an Indian word for going away and experiencing something different), the course offers in-depth tribal missions training at a simulated South American indigenous village built and run by New Tribes Missions. This trip, led by Laurie Schweinsberg (NTM mobilizer and Liberty University instructor) re-enacts a typical departure from the United States and arrival into a tribe to spend a life in ministry and missions.

The students learn in a classroom how to observe cultural events and then analyze this information so that they can intelligently reach an unreached people with the Gospel. The instruction includes practicing learning language and culture in a mock village.

The class is offered as a 3-credit-hour course through The Center for Global Ministry and the Inter-Cultural Studies (Missions) program and is counted in the students’ spring tuition.
