Work begins on third floor of DeMoss Learning Center

Liberty University students using the library and computer labs in the DeMoss Learning Center have had to change their routes as some stairwells have been blocked due to construction on the third floor.

But these minor inconveniences will be well worth it when the 45,669 square feet of expanded computer lab and study space becomes available in the fall.

Work began on the third floor of DeMoss after Spring Break. The plans call for several offices, a “quiet study zone” area, a conference/seminar room, computer workstations and restrooms. An elevator will be installed in the middle of the space.

Floyd Wood of Custom Structures Inc. in Lynchburg is heading the project. He said metal framing is being put in place now and heating and air conditioning should be installed soon. In three weeks, sheetrock should be in place and the rooms will start to take shape, he said.

The DeMoss Learning Center was originally erected in 1985 in honor of the late Arthur S. DeMoss, a generous benefactor, Liberty University board member and powerful Christian witness.

The building was remodeled and expanded in 2000 and now spans 500,000 square feet over four floors. The DeMoss building is the primary academic building on campus, and most general education classes are held there.
