Summer work on campus includes dorm upgrades

Most students are gone for summer, but Dorm 23 is far from quiet. Work crews are currently renovating inside the early 1980s facility – and the complete upgrade will provide new floors, sprinkler systems, a fresh paint job, a change in closet design, and a bathroom and shower overhaul.

“Our main purpose is to better accommodate the students,” said Scott Starnes, maintenance manager for Liberty University.

Workers have been renovating several dorms each year, and they’re focusing on Dorms 23, 20, 19, and the second floor of Dorm 17 this time around. They plan to have the project completed by Aug. 15.

The dorm renovation is part of a concerted effort by school officials to upgrade facilities at LU, which was founded in 1971.

In addition to renovations, this summer the school is finishing the interior construction of the third floor of the DeMoss Learning Center, finishing work on the Towns/Alumni Ministry Training Center and building a road around the perimeter of campus to help with automobile traffic flow.

This year LU will close out its fall enrollment for the first time while concentrating on building support facilities, such as new classrooms, an expanded library and more parking lots.
