Best-selling author shares insight on leadership

Dr. John Trent, founder of Strongfamiles.com, spoke during Monday’s convocation, emphasizing the importance of personal strengths. Citing 1 Corinthians 12:14-18, the best-selling author noted the uniqueness of each individual within a group.

“It’s really important to realize that Almighty God places us with people that are different than us,” Trent said.

The speaker then categorized four different types of people based on their strengths. These categories include those who are goal-driven, loyal, optimistic and detail-oriented.

“Once you understand your strengths you are able to better understand the four predictable areas of conflict,” he said.

Trent identified these four areas as aggressiveness, trust, risk taking and decision making — all of which come into play in marriage and family life. By being aware of these areas of conflict, people are better able to deal with life’s problems no matter how different they are from those around them.

Trent is the author of more than a dozen award-winning and best-selling books — including The Blessing, The Language of Love, Heartshift, and Breaking the Cycle of Divorce. His most recent books include The 2 Degree Difference, Superhero Swamp (a children’s book), and Skinny Rabbits. Trent has also spoken to over 100,000 people in over 65 major cities in the past five years, as well as 750,000 men at Promise Keepers conferences.
