Seminary holds International Student Festival

February 6, 2009 : University Advancement staff

Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and Graduate School’s annual International Student Festival was held Thursday, Feb. 5, in Pate Chapel at Thomas Road Baptist Church. Food from the countries of Japan, China, Kenya, South America and regions of West Virginia and the Mississippi River Delta were represented as a “taste of the nations.”

Many American students brought ethic food representing the areas where they have a heart for missions. Faculty, including Dr. Jones Kaleli, from Kenya, and Dr. Fred Smith, from Memphis, Tenn., also brought food representing their home countries and states.

“We’re one body in Christ. It’s really about fellowshipping and enjoying what each other’s home cooking tastes like,” said Laverne Smith, assistant to LBTS President Dr. Ergun Caner.

Caner also attended, expressing his appreciation to the LBTS students and faculty, saying “if I could find a way to thank every single one of you, I would.”

Recognizing that many of the seminary students are married with children, LBTS also offered them an opportunity to have photo ID cards made of their children with Operation Identi-kid. This provides parents with identification in case a child is ever lost.
