Missionary Brad Buser speaks at Friday convocation

February 20, 2009 : Dominique McKay

Liberty University’s Missions Emphasis week concluded Friday with missionary Brad Buser speaking to students at Friday’s convocation. Buser shared his 20 years of experience serving as a missionary to the Iteri people of Papua, New Guinea, and challenged students to go into every corner of the world to share the Gospel.

“Over 2,000 languages on this planet have never been reached by the Gospel,” he said.

He cited Rev. 5:9: “And they sang a new song; you are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased me for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.”

“There will be someday before the throne of our God men from every tongue, tribe and nation, but we’re not there yet,” he said.

Buser said more than 90 percent of Christian money is spent on people who speak English and 95 percent of money donated to missions does not go to the unreached people groups.

“Very little of our Christian emphasis is going, as Paul would say, to preach the Gospel where no man has gone before,” he said.

Buser concluded by showing a video of missionaries in the tribe of Yembi and challenging students to go to the ends of the earth with the Gospel.

“At the end of the day it is a privilege, it is an honor to get to represent the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.”

With the theme “By All Means,” this semester’s MEW featured guest speakers Luis Palau, world evangelist and author of “A Friendly Dialogue between an Atheist and a Christian,” and Heather Mercer, of Global Hope. Throughout the week missionary leaders on campus joined with representatives from Liberty’s six mission agency partners to help students learn how they could play a more active role in missions. A series of seminars was planned and representatives from more than 100 missions agencies set up booths and were available to speak to students.
