LaHaye Rec and Fitness Center showcased by Athletic Business magazine
Liberty University’s LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center, renovated and expanded in 2014, was featured this month on the Athletic Business website and in its online Buyers Guide trade magazine. The story highlights the facility’s state-of-the-art equipment and recreational spaces that promote the health and wellness of its students, faculty, and staff.
The Athletic Business Online Buyers Guide is the most comprehensive directory in the athletic, fitness, and recreation industry with information on 3,000 companies that provide more than 11,300 products and services. The piece includes a project description, photos, and names of architects and vendors for the $12 million, 82,000-square-foot renovation.
The LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center is equipped with a weight room featuring LifeFitness and HD Elite Hammer Strength equipment and Olympic lifting zones; a 40-foot rock climbing tower, the centerpiece of a 4,000-square-foot climbing area; an Aquatics Center; and a 0.1-mile elevated track that overlooks seven basketball/volleyball courts and three racquetball courts and bridges to cardio and training lofts and various group exercise studios (for aerobics, cycling, dance, mind/body, strength, and TRX training).
On Friday, the cardio lofts were equipped with all new LifeFitness Discover Tablet Consoles, offering touchscreen access to detailed workout analysis, TV, internet, and interactive courses.
The LaHaye Student Union also includes the Campus Recreation offices, the Tilley Student Center food court and lounge area, and the LaHaye Event Space, which hosts concerts and other Student Activities events.
“It’s a destination to come here,” Liberty Director of Recreation Centers Jamie Swyers said. “Regardless of whether they have classes or work there, students and faculty will go out of their way to come to Green Hall just to use our (recreation and fitness) facilities.”
